A Marriage Wake-up call for me…
Am I making investments into my marriage so that I can draw from it?
Scripture says “Do you know the saying, “Drink from your own rain barrel, draw water from your own spring-fed well”? It’s true. Otherwise, you may one day come home and find your barrel empty and your well polluted. Your spring water is for you and you only, not to be passed around among strangers. Bless your fresh-flowing fountain! Enjoy the wife you married as a young man! Lovely as an angel, beautiful as a rose— don’t ever quit taking delight in her body. Never take her love for granted! Why would you trade enduring intimacies for cheap thrills with a whore? for dalliance with a promiscuous stranger?”
Proverbs 5:15-20 MSG
A lot can be taken and applied from this passage of scripture… for one, how’s your sex life (and are you making a healthy amount of deposits there?) 😉 But, for this post, I wanted to focus on something a little different..
This passage talks about how as I wife, I am lovely as an angel and beautiful as a rose. Do I believe that?? Do I believe that I am LOVELY (as an angel!) and BEAUTIFUL (as a rose!)?Am I living out who God says I am in my inward thought and my outward actions?
Looking a little deeper at a few of these words (taken from the free dictionary app)..
Lovely: full of love; loving. Inspiring love or affection. Having beauty that appeals to the emotions as well as the eye. Enjoyable; delightful. Highly pleasing, attentive, charming, gracefully beautiful. Of a great moral or spiritual beauty.
Angel: a benevolent, goodwill, generous and selfless being that acts as an intermediary between heaven and earth. A kind and lovable person. One who manifests goodness, purity and selflessness. A messenger of God, guardian spirit.
Beautiful: having qualities that delight the senses, especially the sense of sight. Excellent, wonderful, attractive, graceful, pleasant, pretty, lovely, tempting, gorgeous, fetching, magnetic, cute, enticing, captivating, appealing, radiant, ravishing, winsome.
Rose: brightly colored, sweet-scented, bright, hopeful, cheerful, optimistic, glowing, fresh, blooming.
I want to meditate on these words and allow them to sink deep into my soul. Remind myself of who I really am!
I also love to switch the roles in verse 19..
Enjoy the husband you married as a young woman! Righteous and a strong leader with a compassionate heart- don’t ever quit taking delight in his body. Never take his love for granted!
Let’s remind ourselves how lovely & beautiful we really are as wives, let’s fully enjoy our husbands that God blessed us with and let’s be proactive about making continual investments into our marriages so we can draw upon it! Let’s appreciate the love that we have, may we never take it for granted!!
Praying blessings & the help of the beautiful Holy Spirit to help all who read this.
